About Jaswant Thada
Jaswant Thada is a white marble memorial built in 1899 by Maharaja Sardar Singh in memory of his father, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. It sits on a slope just below Mehrangarh Fort, beside a small lake, and is often called the Taj Mahal of Marwar. The marble is carved so thin in places that it glows when the sun shines through it.
The main memorial is surrounded by smaller cenotaphs of later rulers, terraced gardens and carved marble screens. It is much quieter than the fort, and the view back towards Mehrangarh and across the city makes it an easy and calm stop on the same morning.
