Best time to visit Jog Falls

The best time to visit Jog Falls is from August to December, when the falls are still full from the monsoon and the mist starts to clear. This is when you are most likely to see all four streams at full strength.

July is the wettest month, with the most water but also heavy rain and thick mist that can hide the falls. From February to May the flow is often thin, because the Linganamakki Dam holds back most of the river. The right time depends on whether you want power, clear views or fewer crowds.

Best Month to Visit Jog Falls

June and July

The monsoon arrives in June and the rain is very heavy through July. The falls fill up fast, but mist and low cloud often fill the gorge, and roads and paths are wet. Carry proper rain gear and be ready to wait for the view.

August and September

The falls are usually at their fullest, especially when the dam gates are opened after heavy rain. The mist starts to lift more often, and the valley is deep green. Weekends are very busy.

October to December

The rain eases, the skies clear and the falls still have plenty of water. This is the most comfortable time for walking, photography and trips to Honnemaradu and the Sharavathi valley.

January to May

The weather is dry and warm, but the falls often shrink to thin streams, and in the driest months they can be almost dry. The gorge and rock face are easy to see, and the site is much quieter.

When Is Jog Falls Most Crowded?

Jog Falls is busiest on weekends and holidays from July to October, when people drive in from across Karnataka to see the falls in full flow. Parking and the viewing terraces fill up by late morning.

For a quieter visit, go on a weekday, arrive when the gates open, or visit in November or December, when the falls still have good flow.
