About Devi Jagadambi Temple
Devi Jagadambi Temple stands in the Western Group, on the same platform as Kandariya Mahadeva, with a small shrine between them. It was built in the early 11th century, around 1000 to 1025, and was originally dedicated to Vishnu. Today it is named after the large image of the goddess, identified as Parvati, in its sanctum.
The temple is smaller than its neighbour, but it is one of the most finely decorated at Khajuraho. Three bands of sculpture wrap around its walls, with gods, celestial women, couples and mythical animals, including some erotic figures. It is a good place to study the carving closely before or after the larger Kandariya Mahadeva.
