Best Month to Visit Kumbakonam

January to March

The most comfortable time of year, with dry weather, clear skies and green fields after the rain. Pongal (mid-January) and Masi Magam (February–March) bring festival crowds.

April to June

The hottest months, with May usually the peak. Visit temples early in the morning and after 4 PM, and rest through the middle of the day.

July to September

Still hot, with only occasional showers, as the southwest monsoon mostly misses this side of Tamil Nadu. A quieter, cheaper time to visit if you can handle the heat.

October to December

The northeast monsoon brings most of the year's rain, sometimes heavy, and the odd cyclone warning. The countryside turns green, but check weather updates and keep plans flexible.

When Is Kumbakonam Most Crowded?

Kumbakonam is busiest during Masi Magam each February or March, on weekends and on temple festival days. The town is at its most crowded during Mahamaham, held once every 12 years. The last one was in 2016, and the next is expected in 2028, when hotels fill up far in advance.

For a quieter trip, visit on weekdays and outside festival weeks, and see the main temples early in the morning.
