October and November
The monsoon has just ended, so the hills are still green and the air is clear. Days are warm but comfortable, and it is a good time for walking the wall and for a safari in the sanctuary.
December to February
The coolest and busiest months. Days are pleasant, while nights and early mornings can be cold. The Kumbhalgarh Festival is usually held in early December.
March
The weather warms up, but mornings and evenings are still comfortable. Crowds are smaller than in winter, which makes it a good shoulder month.
April to June
The hottest months, often around 40 °C by midday. If you visit, climb the fort early in the morning, rest in the afternoon and come back for sunset and the evening show.
July to September
The monsoon brings on-and-off showers, mist over the hills and green forest around the fort. Stone paths can be slippery, and wildlife is harder to spot in the thick growth, so check whether safaris are running.
When Is Kumbhalgarh Most Crowded?
Kumbhalgarh is busiest from November to January, around Diwali, Christmas and New Year, and during the Kumbhalgarh Festival in December. Weekends also bring day-trippers from Udaipur.
For a quieter visit, go in October, March or during the monsoon, and start the climb as soon as the fort opens.
