About Kumbhalgarh Fort
Kumbhalgarh Fort was built in the 15th century by Rana Kumbha of Mewar on a hilltop in the Aravallis, at about 1,100 m. It was one of Mewar's most important strongholds and the birthplace of Maharana Pratap. Since 2013 it has been one of the six Hill Forts of Rajasthan on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
You enter through a series of gates, such as Ram Pol, and climb up to Badal Mahal at the top. Inside the walls are palaces, water tanks and hundreds of Hindu and Jain temples, many now in ruins. In the evening, a light-and-sound show tells the fort's story, and the walls are lit up after dark.
