Best time to visit Majuli
Majuli is a low island in a very large river, so the monsoon decides everything. Come between October and March, when the roads are dry and the ferry runs to a steady timetable.

Jul – Sep
Heavy and frequent rain from June — roads can flood and some rural sights and parks close.
Pack: a good rain shell or umbrella, quick-dry clothes and waterproof shoes.
Plan a monsoon day →October: the island dries out
The floods recede through September and October, leaving green fields and full wetlands. It is warm and humid by day, with occasional late showers. Paths can still be muddy in low areas. Ferries return to a more regular schedule as the river settles.
November: festival month
The Raas Mahotsav, a festival of theatre and dance about the life of Krishna, fills the satras for several days around the full moon, usually in November. It is the busiest time of year, and rooms are hard to find. The weather is pleasant, and migratory birds begin arriving.
December to February: cool and foggy
The most comfortable time for walking and cycling, with mild days and cool nights. Thick morning fog on the Brahmaputra can delay or cancel early ferries, so allow a buffer day before a flight. January brings Magh Bihu and fresh pitha, and February brings the Mishing Ali-Aye-Ligang festival. Birdwatching is at its best in the wetlands.
March: warming up
Days grow hot and hazy, but the island is still easy to explore. It is a quieter time, with lower rates at guesthouses.
April to May: heat and storms
Hot and very humid, with sudden pre-monsoon storms. Rongali Bihu in mid-April brings dancing and music in the villages. Rain grows heavier through May.
June to September: flood season
The monsoon brings heavy rain, and the Brahmaputra and its channels flood large parts of the island. Roads can be cut, villages are surrounded by water, and ferries can be suspended when the river is high or fast. This is when the Mishing stilt houses make sense. Visiting is possible for experienced travellers, but plans can change at short notice.
In short
Come between late October and February. Choose November for the Raas Mahotsav, or December to February for cool weather and birds, with a spare day for fog.
