Best time to visit Mandu
The best time to visit Mandu is from July to March. The monsoon months, July to September, turn the plateau green and fill the lakes around the Jahaz Mahal, which is when Mandu looks its best. From October to March the weather is dry and pleasant for walking between the monuments.
April to June is very hot, with days often close to 40 °C, so it is the least comfortable time to visit. The right season for you depends on whether you want green landscapes, clear skies or fewer crowds.

July to September
The monsoon usually reaches Mandu in late June, and July is the wettest month. The plateau turns green, the lakes fill and small waterfalls run down the ravines. Showers come and go, but stone paths get slippery, so wear shoes with a good grip.
October and November
The rains clear, the plateau stays green into October and the skies are often bright. Days can still be warm, but mornings and evenings are pleasant. Diwali usually falls in this period.
December to February
These are the coolest months, with sunny days and nights that can drop to around 10 °C. It is the most comfortable time for sightseeing, and in some years the Mandu Festival has been held in late December or January.
March
The weather warms up quickly and the landscape turns dry. Mornings and late afternoons are still pleasant for sightseeing, and Holi falls in March in most years.
April to June
This is the hottest time of year, with days often close to 40 °C in April and May. Visit the monuments early in the morning and late in the afternoon, and rest in the middle of the day.
When Is Mandu Most Crowded?
Mandu is busiest on weekends and public holidays, especially in the monsoon, when many visitors come on day trips from Indore and nearby towns. The Christmas and New Year holidays and festival weeks are also busy, and rooms can fill up, as Mandu has only a limited number of places to stay.
For a quieter trip, visit on a weekday and start early, when the Royal Enclave and the Jami Masjid are at their calmest. See events and festivals in Mandu if you want to plan around a festival.
