About Achalgarh Fort

Achalgarh Fort stands on a hill about 11 km north of Mount Abu town. It was first built under the Paramara rulers and later rebuilt by Rana Kumbha of Mewar in the 15th century. Today it is mostly in ruins, with old gateways and walls half-covered by trees, and a steep path leads up through the fort to Jain temples near the top.

At the foot of the hill is the Achaleshwar Mahadev Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and known for its large metal Nandi statue. The fort is much quieter than the sights in town, so it suits visitors who want a slow walk, old stone and wide views over the hills.
