About Murudeshwar Beach
Murudeshwar Beach runs along the coast beside Kanduka Hill, with the giant Shiva statue and the Raja Gopura rising at one end. It is where most visitors spend their afternoons, with fishing boats pulled up on the sand, snack stalls, water sports and the best views of the temple complex from below.
The beach faces west, so sunsets over the Arabian Sea are the main draw. The sea here can be rough and currents are strong: in December 2024 four schoolgirls drowned here, and the beach was closed to visitors for a few weeks before reopening with ropes marking the safe zone. Enjoy the view, but treat the water with respect.
