Not sure what to order? The Nubra Valley food guide starts from the dishes — what each one is, when to eat it, and which of these kitchens is known for it.
Most meals are at your camp
Most visitors to Nubra eat dinner and breakfast where they stay, whether a tented camp at Hunder or a guesthouse in Diskit. That is normal here, not a lack of choice. Lunch is where the few restaurants come in, usually on the way between sights.
Diskit
Diskit Kitchen, near the monastery, is a straightforward stop for thukpa, momos and plain Ladakhi meals. It suits a lunch after the monastery and the Maitreya, before you head to the dunes. Diskit is also the valley's main town, so it has more small eateries than anywhere else in Nubra.
Hunder
Hunder has two useful options. Dune View Café sits by the sand dunes and does momos, butter tea, apricot snacks and quick meals, which is handy while you wait for the evening light. Nubra Organic Retreat is a garden restaurant serving Ladakhi thalis, thukpa and produce grown in the valley. It is a calmer place for a longer meal.
Turtuk
Turtuk Balti Kitchen serves buckwheat dishes, apricot food and Balti home cooking. It is the easiest way to taste Balti food if your homestay does not cook it. Turtuk is a long drive from Hunder, so eating here saves a late lunch back in the valley.
Hours and seasons
The opening hours listed on this page are what the kitchens keep in the main season. From about October, many places cut back or close until spring, and camps pack up. In the shoulder months, check with your host where you can eat before you set out. Carry snacks and water on every drive.

Questions
Nubra Valley — FAQ
Where should I eat in Nubra Valley?
4 places are listed here, across 3 areas. Each entry says what that kitchen is known for rather than reprinting its menu, so pick by the dish you want and the area you'll be in.
What should I order in Nubra Valley?
Start from the dishes rather than the restaurants — the Nubra Valley food guide covers what each dish is and when to eat it, then links to the places that do it well.
Do camps in Hunder serve meals?
Yes. Most camps and guesthouses include dinner and breakfast, usually a set buffet of dal, rice, vegetables and bread. Tell them in advance if you have a food allergy or need a special diet.
Where can I eat on a day trip to Turtuk?
Eat lunch in Turtuk itself. Turtuk Balti Kitchen and the village homestays cook Balti food, and there is little along the road back to Hunder.
Are restaurants in Nubra open in winter?
Very few. Most cafés and camps close from around October to April. Guesthouses in Diskit that stay open will usually cook for you.
