Best time to visit Ooty
The best time to visit Ooty is from October to June. The winter months are clear and cool, with cold nights and frosty mornings, while April to June is mild and pleasant when the plains below are at their hottest.
The monsoon, roughly July to September, brings heavy rain, mist and a risk of landslides on the ghat roads, so it is the least reliable time for sightseeing. The right month for you depends on whether you want clear views, the May flower show or fewer crowds.

October and November
The monsoon eases and the hills are at their greenest. Showers are still possible, especially in October and November, but crowds are lighter than in summer.
December to February
The coldest months, with clear skies, bright days and cold nights. Frost is common on open grassland in the early morning, and views from Doddabetta are often at their sharpest. Pack proper warm layers.
March and April
Days warm up, the skies stay fairly clear and the town is pleasant for walking. Crowds build through April as school holidays begin.
May and June
Peak season. May brings the summer festival and the flower show at the Government Botanical Garden, and the town is at its busiest. Pre-monsoon showers usually start towards June.
July to September
The monsoon brings rain, mist and full waterfalls, but views are often hidden and paths are slippery. Check weather and road updates before you travel, as landslides can block the ghat roads.
When Is Ooty Most Crowded?
Ooty is busiest in May, during school holidays, long weekends and around Christmas and New Year. Traffic on the ghat roads can back up for hours, hotels fill early, and vehicle entry into the Nilgiris has been capped on busy days under the e-pass system.
For a quieter trip, visit on weekdays between October and March, and start sightseeing early. See events and festivals in Ooty if you want to plan around the flower show.
