Where to Eat in Puri
Puri splits neatly: vegetarian kitchens near the temple, fish and cafés by the sea. These four cover a pilgrim lunch, a garden dinner and a slow beach breakfast.

Not sure what to order? The Puri food guide starts from the dishes — what each one is, when to eat it, and which of these kitchens is known for it.
Ananda Bhawan, Grand Road
A vegetarian restaurant close to the Jagannath temple, useful for a proper Odia thali after darshan. Expect rice, dal, a couple of vegetables, pickle and a sweet, all without fuss. Being on Grand Road, it is packed at festival times and around midday. Chhena poda is usually on the menu too.
Wildgrass Restaurant, VIP Road
A garden restaurant with tables among plants, a welcome escape from the heat and noise of the temple area. It cooks Odia dishes alongside a general menu, and the coastal prawn curry is the reason to come. Good for a long dinner.
Chung Wah, VIP Road
One of Puri's older restaurants, better known for Indian-style Chinese than Odia cooking, but its seafood draws a steady crowd. It suits a family with mixed tastes. It is on the road towards the hotels and the Blue Flag beach.
Honey Bee Bakery & Pizzeria, CT Road
A backpacker-era café on Chakratirtha Road with breakfasts, bakes, coffee and simple comfort food. Come for a slow morning after sunrise on the beach. It is not an Odia kitchen, but it is where many travellers end up at least once.
Area guide
- Grand Road: vegetarian, temple-oriented, busiest in the morning.
- VIP Road: hotels, seafood, sit-down dinners.
- CT Road: cafés, budget guesthouses, relaxed.
Tips
- Lunch is the main Odia meal; thalis are freshest at midday.
- Carry cash for smaller places, though digital payments are common.
- In peak season and around Rath Yatra, eat early to avoid long waits.
See the food page for what each dish is before you order.
