About Ranthambore Fort

Ranthambore Fort stands on a high hill in the middle of the tiger reserve. It dates back to around the 10th century and was a stronghold of the Chauhan Rajputs, most famously of Rao Hammir Dev. In 2013 it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan.

Inside the walls you find large gates, ruined palaces such as Hammir's palace, water tanks, Hindu and Jain temples and the busy Trinetra Ganesh temple. From the top you can look down over the forest, Padam Talao and Jogi Mahal. The fort is reached by road through the park and does not need a safari permit, so it is an easy half-day between safaris.
