About Ranthambore National Park

Ranthambore National Park is one of India's best-known tiger reserves, set where the Aravalli and Vindhya hills meet in eastern Rajasthan. The land is dry deciduous forest, with rocky ridges, grassland and lakes, and the ruins of old pavilions and walls scattered across it. Tigers here are well known for being active in daylight, which is why the park is so popular with wildlife photographers.

Visitors explore the park on guided safaris, in the morning or afternoon, in a six-seat gypsy or a larger canter. The park is divided into ten zones, and your zone is fixed on your permit. Zones 1 to 5 form the core, around the lakes and fort, and usually close from July to September. Besides tigers, look for leopards, sloth bears, sambar, spotted deer, marsh crocodiles and many birds.
