Best Month to Visit Trichy

November and December

The heat eases, but the northeast monsoon can still bring heavy showers, especially in November. December is also the start of the Vaikunta Ekadasi season at Srirangam, so the temple gets very busy.

January and February

The best months for most visitors. The weather is warm and dry, mornings are fresh, and Pongal in mid-January fills the city with festive colour.

March

It starts to warm up quickly, but early mornings are still comfortable. Crowds are smaller than in winter.

April to June

The hottest part of the year, with May usually the peak. Sightseeing is hard in the middle of the day, especially the barefoot climb up the Rockfort. Plan visits for early morning and late afternoon.

July to September

Still hot, with only occasional showers. The Cauvery is usually flowing by this time, which makes Kallanai and the river ghats more attractive. Aadi Perukku, a river festival, usually falls in early August.

October

The northeast monsoon usually starts in the second half of the month. Carry an umbrella and keep plans flexible.

When Is Trichy Most Crowded?

Srirangam is at its busiest during Vaikunta Ekadasi, around December–January, when very large numbers of pilgrims come for the festival. Weekends, school holidays and Tamil festivals like Pongal are also busy at the main temples.

For a quieter trip, visit on a weekday in January, February or early March, and start your sightseeing early.
