Best time to visit Udaipur

The best time to visit Udaipur is from October to March, when days are warm and sunny and evenings are cool. This is the main season for sightseeing, boat rides and walking in the old city.

September and October are also good, as the lakes are usually fuller after the monsoon and the Aravalli hills are still green. April to June is very hot, so if you travel then, plan to see the sights in the early morning and evening.

Best Month to Visit Udaipur

October and November

The monsoon has ended, the air is clear and the lakes are usually at their fullest after a good rainy season. Diwali often falls in these months, when the old city is lit up. A good time for photos and boat rides.

December to February

The coolest months, with sunny days and chilly mornings and nights. This is peak season, so hotels, boat rides and lakeside restaurants are at their busiest, especially around Christmas and New Year.

March

Days get warmer but are still comfortable. Holi, and in some years Gangaur and the Mewar Festival, fall around March or April.

April to June

The hottest months, especially May and early June. Sightseeing is best at sunrise and after 5 pm, with the afternoons spent indoors. Hotels are quieter and cheaper.

July to September

The monsoon brings warm, humid weather with showers on some days. The hills turn green, the lakes start to fill and Sajjangarh lives up to its name as the Monsoon Palace. How full the lakes get depends on each year's rain.

When Is Udaipur Most Crowded?

Udaipur is busiest from October to February, around Diwali, Christmas and New Year, and on long weekends. The winter wedding season also fills hotels in the city. Book early for these dates and expect queues at the City Palace and the boat jetty.

For a quieter trip, visit in late September, early October or March, and start sightseeing early in the day.

Questions

Udaipur — FAQ

What is the best month to visit Udaipur?

October to March is the best time for pleasant weather. For fuller lakes and green hills, visit in September or October, after the monsoon.

Is Udaipur too hot in summer?

It can be. Afternoons in May and June are very hot, sometimes around 40 °C. Udaipur is milder than the desert cities, but plan sightseeing for early mornings and evenings.

Is monsoon a good time to visit Udaipur?

It can be. The rains cool the air, turn the hills green and fill the lakes, and hotels are cheaper. Showers can interrupt boat rides and sightseeing, and a weak monsoon can leave the lakes low.

Do the lakes in Udaipur dry up?

They can get low. The lakes depend on the monsoon, and after years of poor rain parts of Lake Pichola and the other lakes have shrunk. They are usually fullest from September to December.
