About Lake Pichola
Lake Pichola is the oldest and best known of Udaipur's lakes. It was made in the 14th century and later enlarged by Maharana Udai Singh II, who founded the city on its banks. The City Palace runs along its east shore, and its islands include Jag Mandir. Ghats, temples and old havelis line the rest of the water.
The classic way to see the lake is on a boat ride from the City Palace jetty, usually in the late afternoon or at sunset. From the western shore, Ambrai Ghat and Hanuman Ghat give the best-known view of the City Palace reflected in the water. Lake Pichola depends on the monsoon, so it is fullest after a good rainy season and can be low after a dry year.
