About Sajjangarh (Monsoon Palace)

Sajjangarh, better known as the Monsoon Palace, stands on a hilltop west of Udaipur. It was built in 1884 by Maharana Sajjan Singh, who wanted a palace high enough to watch the monsoon clouds roll in over the hills. The white palace can be seen from much of the city, especially when it is lit up at night.

The palace is surrounded by the Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary, and the narrow road up to it winds through the forest. From the terraces at the top you can see the Aravalli hills, Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar and the city below. It is the most popular place in Udaipur to watch the sunset.
