About Kappil Beach and Lake
Kappil is about 8 km north of Varkala, where the Edava–Nadayara backwater lake comes within a thin strip of sand of the Arabian Sea. On one side you have still water lined with coconut palms; on the other, open sea and waves. A road bridge crosses the lake, and it is the easiest place to see both at once.
Kappil is much quieter than Varkala's main beach, with few shops and little development. Boating on the backwater is usually available near the lake, which makes it a relaxed half-day trip from the cliff, especially in the late afternoon.
