Best time to visit Vellore

The best time to visit Vellore is from December to February, when days are warm rather than hot and mornings are pleasant for exploring the fort. This is the only part of the year when you can comfortably spend a full day outdoors.

Vellore is one of the hottest cities in Tamil Nadu. From April to June, daytime temperatures are often close to 40 °C. The city gets its rain in two spells, from about July to September and again from October to early December, so the second half of the year is warm, humid and often wet.

Best Month to Visit Vellore

December to February

The most comfortable months, with daytime highs around 29–33 °C and cooler mornings. Skies are mostly clear, and this is the best time for the fort, the temples and Amirthi. Early December can still bring some rain.

March

The heat builds quickly, with afternoons around 36 °C. Sightseeing is still possible if you go out early and rest in the middle of the day.

April to June

The hottest months, with temperatures often close to 40 °C and sometimes higher. Plan outdoor visits for early morning and late evening, and carry plenty of water.

July to September

Still hot, but afternoon and evening thunderstorms become more common. September is often one of the wettest months of the year in Vellore.

October and November

The northeast monsoon brings spells of heavy rain, and cyclones on the coast can bring several wet days in a row. The countryside turns green and Amirthi falls usually have the most water. Check the weather before day trips.

When Is Vellore Most Crowded?

The Sripuram Golden Temple is busiest on weekends, public holidays and festival days such as Navratri and Deepavali, when queues along the star path can be long. Amirthi Zoological Park is busiest on Sundays and school holidays, and the city is crowded during the Pongal holidays in mid-January.

For a quieter visit, go on a weekday and reach Sripuram soon after it opens.
