About Amirthi Falls and Zoo
Amirthi Zoological Park sits in the Amirthi forest at the foot of the Javadhu Hills, about 25 km from Vellore. Opened in 1967, it is a small zoo with spotted deer, sambar, monkeys, crocodiles, peafowl and other birds and reptiles. It is a popular picnic spot for families from Vellore.
From the park, a walk of about a kilometre through the forest leads to Amirthi falls, a small cascade over rocks. The falls are seasonal and usually flow only after the rains, roughly from late August to December.
