Local tips
Take the ropeway up rather than the road, because the ride itself gives you the best view of the beach.
Buy your skywalk ticket as soon as you arrive, as the queue grows through the afternoon.
Go on a weekday if you can, since weekend evenings bring long waits for the ropeway.
Carry water, because stalls at the top are limited and it is warm even in winter.
Leave plastic bags and bottles in the car, as the hill is a plastic-free zone.
Stay until dusk to watch the city lights come on below the hill.
Check whether the ropeway is running in rain or high wind before you queue.
A park on a hill
Kailasagiri is a hill about 173 metres high at the northern edge of the city, turned into a large park by the city's development authority. Its value is the view. From the top you look down the curve of the bay, over RK Beach, the port and the city spreading back into the hills. It is one of the most visited places in Vizag, especially at weekends.
Getting up
You can drive or take an auto up the road, but most people ride the ropeway, about 350 metres long, from the base near Beach Road. It is short and gives a good view on the way up. A small toy train circles the top of the hill, which is popular with children.
At the top
The white statues of Shiva and Parvati are the landmark you can see from the beach below. Around them are gardens, a floral clock, viewpoints over the sea and the Telugu Samskruthika Niketanam, a museum of Telugu culture and history. The hill is a declared plastic-free zone.
The glass skywalk
A 55-metre glass skywalk opened on the hilltop in December 2025. It juts out from the hill over the slope, with the sea on one side and the ghats on the other. Entry is ticketed and controlled: only a small group is allowed on at a time, for a few minutes each. Expect a queue at weekends.
When to go
Late afternoon into sunset is the favourite time, when the heat drops and the city lights come on. Mornings are quieter. In heavy rain or strong wind, the ropeway and skywalk may stop, so check at the base.
