Best time to visit Wayanad

The best time to visit Wayanad is from October to May. The most pleasant months are October to February, when the air is cool, the hills are green after the rain and the waterfalls still have water.

Wayanad does not get snow; its winters are mild. The season to be careful of is the monsoon, from June to September, when very heavy rain can cause landslides, and treks and adventure activities are suspended during rain alerts.

Best Month to Visit Wayanad

October and November

The monsoon eases, the hills are at their greenest and Soochipara Falls is full. Some rain is still possible, especially in October. A good time for photos and waterfalls.

December to February

The coolest and driest months, with clear mornings and chilly nights. This is the best time for the Chembra trek and the Edakkal climb, and it is also the busiest season.

March to May

Days get warm and humid, the waterfalls thin out and afternoon showers become common from April. Mornings are still good for sightseeing, and it is cooler here than on the Kerala coast.

June to September

The monsoon brings very heavy rain. The landscape is lush, but treks can be closed, waterfalls can be too dangerous to approach and roads can be affected by landslides. Check district weather alerts before you travel and keep your plans flexible.

When Is Wayanad Most Crowded?

Wayanad is busiest from December to January, especially around Christmas and New Year, and during the April–May school holidays. Weekends and long weekends also bring many visitors from Bengaluru, Mysuru and Kozhikode, and the Thamarassery Ghat road can be slow.

For a quieter trip, visit on weekdays in October–November or February, and reach Chembra and Edakkal early, as both limit daily entries.
