About Chembra Peak
Chembra Peak, near Meppadi, is the highest point in Wayanad at about 2,100 m. It is best known for the heart-shaped lake on its slopes, which has become one of the most recognisable sights in Kerala. The trail climbs through tea estates, a patch of forest and open grassland, with wide views over the district.
The trek is run by the Forest Department. You need a permit, a forest guide goes with each group and the number of trekkers each day is limited. For now the heart-shaped lake is the end point: the path above it to the summit has been closed. The trek takes most of a morning, and it is steep and exposed in places.
