About Soochipara Falls
Soochipara Falls, also called Sentinel Rock Waterfalls, is in the forest near Meppadi, about 22 km from Kalpetta. The water drops in three tiers down a rock face of around 200 m into a pool below, surrounded by forest. The name comes from the needle-shaped rock nearby: 'soochi' means needle and 'para' means rock in Malayalam.
From the entrance, a walk of about 1.5–2 km on a forest path and steps takes you down to the falls. The falls are fullest just after the monsoon. The site lies in Meppadi, near the area affected by the July 2024 landslides, and it was closed for a long period afterwards. Check that it is open before you drive out, especially in the rainy season.
