About Chapora Fort

Chapora Fort sits on a hill above Vagator Beach in North Goa, where the Chapora River meets the Arabian Sea. The Portuguese built the present fort in the early 1600s on the site of an older fort. Today only its red laterite walls remain, but they give wide views over Vagator, the river mouth and the fishing boats at Chapora.

The fort became famous in 2001 through the Hindi film Dil Chahta Hai, and it is now one of the most popular sunset spots in North Goa. The walk up is short but steep and rocky, and there are no railings on the walls, so take care, especially with children.
