Hotel dining rooms
Much of Gulmarg's eating happens in hotels, and two of the older ones are worth a visit even if you are staying elsewhere. Highlands Park is a heritage hotel above the meadow, with Kashmiri dishes and a view over the bowl; it is the place for a slower Wazwan-style meal. Nedou's Hotel, one of the oldest names in Gulmarg, has a dining room that serves Kashmiri and Indian food and is easy for families. Both are best for dinner after a day on the slopes.
Near the gondola
On the road to the gondola base, Bakshi Restaurant is listed for rogan josh and kahwa, and a place near the base station is useful before or after your cable car slot. Eat before going up, as food at the top is basic and not always open.
Cafés for tea
Kong Posh Café is listed for kahwa, noon chai and Kashmiri bakery items. A café stop is useful between the meadow walk and a visit to St Mary's Church. Tea stalls around the Gulmarg Meadow and at Kongdoori serve kahwa and hot snacks.
How to plan meals
Gulmarg is spread out and cold for much of the year, so plan meals around where you will be. Breakfast early at your hotel before the first gondola, lunch near the base or back in the village, and dinner at your hotel or one of the heritage dining rooms. Many kitchens close by about 10 pm, earlier out of season. Ask your hotel before walking out in the snow at night.
