Food place in Jaipur
Niros
MI Road, Jaipur
Jaipur's other great MI Road institution, open since 1949 and the most glaring omission from a Jaipur food guide. Niros sits on Mirza Ismail Road close to Handi and is its direct peer: heritage interiors, a long-standing reputation for laal maas, and a menu that also covers sizzlers, Continental and Chinese for the multigenerational family tables it has always served. If Handi is the laal maas specialist, Niros is the place a Jaipur family takes visitors.

Why Niros matters
Open since 1949 on Mirza Ismail Road, Niros is one of the two heritage restaurants on Jaipur's main old-city artery and the one locals take family to. Its interiors are period rather than themed, and it has survived the churn that has removed most of its contemporaries.
🍛 What to order
Laal maas — the Rajasthani mutton curry in Mathania red chilli. Niros and Handi are the two reference versions on MI Road and are a short walk apart, so you can compare them in one evening.
Safed maas — the pale, creamy counterpart, mutton in yoghurt, cream and cashew with white pepper instead of chilli. Rarer than laal maas and worth ordering if you cannot take much heat.
Sizzlers and Continental — this is a genuine part of what Niros is. Older Indian restaurants of this generation kept a Continental menu for the families who grew up eating there, and Niros still does.
📍 Getting there and when to go
- On Mirza Ismail Road, close to Handi Restaurant and to the Chandpole end of the old city
- Roughly 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM; expect split lunch and dinner sittings and confirm before you go
- Uber and Ola both work in Jaipur, unlike in Ladakh beyond Leh or the Arunachal hill districts
- MI Road parking is difficult in the evening; get dropped rather than driving
Niros and Handi together are the reason MI Road is the first place a traveller should eat in Jaipur. Do one at lunch and the other at dinner rather than choosing.
