Best Photo Spots in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur's photo spots split between tidy city parks and the green Dalma hills to the north. Mornings suit the lake and hills; evenings suit the park and its lights.

Jubilee Park

Jubilee Park is the city's big garden: lawns, fountains, a lake called Jayanti Sarovar and a rose garden. Early morning brings joggers, mist over the water and soft light on the lawns. The evening laser and musical fountain show is lively but hard to photograph well without a tripod. The best time of year here is around Founder's Day on 3 March, when the park and the city are lit up for a few nights.

Dimna Lake

Dimna Lake sits about 13 km out, at the foot of the Dalma hills. The classic frame is the water in front with the forested ridge behind. Mornings are calmest; weekends bring boats and jet skis. Winter mornings can bring mist on the hills.

Dalma hills

The Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary climbs to about 3,000 feet. From the viewpoints near the top you see the city and the Subarnarekha valley spread below. Elephants live in the sanctuary, but sightings are not guaranteed, and you must never approach them for a photo.

Tata Steel Zoological Park

The zoo next to Jubilee Park has a safari area and a lake. Animals are most active early. It is closed on Mondays.

Bhuvaneshwari Temple

Bhuvaneshwari Temple in Telco has a South Indian-style gopuram on a hilltop. Shoot the tower from the steps below, and the city view from the top. Photography inside the shrine is not appropriate.

A simple plan

Morning: Dimna Lake, then up into Dalma. Afternoon: the zoo. Evening: Jubilee Park. Keep Bhuvaneshwari for a sunrise or sunset on a separate day.

Tips

Carry a tripod for the park at night. Keep drones away from the steel works and industrial areas, which are restricted.
