Temples in Kumbakonam
Kumbakonam is one of the great temple towns of Tamil Nadu, with dozens of Shiva and Vishnu temples in and around the town. Several are old and large enough to be landmarks in their own right, and the Airavatesvara Temple at nearby Darasuram is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
These are active places of worship. Most temples close in the middle of the day, so plan to visit in the morning and again in the evening.
