Local tips
Stay behind the railings, because the rock near the edge is slippery and the drop is sheer.
Give the cloud time, since monsoon fog often lifts for a few seconds at a time.
Come early on weekends, as the approach road fills with cars by late morning.
Combine the visit with Lion's Point, which is further along the same road.
Carry a light rain jacket rather than an umbrella, because the wind at the edge turns umbrellas inside out.
Check local news in the monsoon, as the district sometimes closes the viewpoint during heavy rain.
Try the roasted corn from the stalls, which appear in the rainy months.
The cliff
Tiger's Leap, also called Tiger Point, is a flat-topped cliff on the edge of the Sahyadri, south-west of Lonavala towards Kurvande. The drop below is more than 600 metres, straight down into the Konkan. Local legend says a tiger chasing Shivaji leapt off the edge here, which gave the point its name. On a clear day you see ridge after ridge fading towards the coast.
In the monsoon
From June to September the viewpoint is often inside the cloud. You may stand in white fog for twenty minutes, then see the whole valley for thirty seconds before it closes again. A small waterfall runs off the plateau nearby in the rains. Stalls sell roasted corn and tea, and on weekends the road up is lined with cars.
Closures in heavy rain
During very heavy rain the Pune district administration can close Tiger Point, along with Lion's Point and other cliff viewpoints in Maval. In July 2026, for example, an order closing ten spots was issued and then lifted within weeks as the rain eased. Check local news before you drive up in the monsoon.
The skywalk plan
A glass skywalk over the valley has been planned here for several years. As of late 2026 the project was still at the tender stage, and nothing had been built. You will see the cliff as it has always been.
Getting there
Tiger's Leap is roughly 10 km from the town centre by road. Hire an auto or a cab, or drive, and combine it with Lion's Point on the same road. Bhushi Dam is on the way back towards town.
