About Rani Roopmati's Pavilion
Rani Roopmati's Pavilion stands on the southern edge of the Mandu plateau, where the land drops away to the Nimar plain and the Narmada valley. It was first built as an army lookout post and later became a retreat, with two domed pavilions on its terrace. Legend says Roopmati, the singer loved by Sultan Baz Bahadur, came here every day to see the Narmada, and would not eat until she had seen the river.
Just below it is Baz Bahadur's Palace, which dates from the early 16th century. Nearby is Rewa Kund, a reservoir that Baz Bahadur is said to have built to bring water up to the pavilion. Together they make up the Rewa Kund group, about 6 km south of the village, and the pavilion is one of the most popular places in Mandu for late-afternoon views.
