Not sure what to order? The Mussoorie food guide starts from the dishes — what each one is, when to eat it, and which of these kitchens is known for it.
Landour
Char Dukan is a small group of cafés beside the old church at the top of Landour, a short walk from Lal Tibba. It is known for bun tikki, pancakes, Maggi and chai. Seating is limited, so on weekends you may wait for a table or eat standing.
Café Ivy is listed as a hillside café in Landour for coffee, breakfasts and cakes. It suits a slower morning before or after the Lal Tibba walk.
Landour is mostly for breakfast and lunch. Many places close early, and the lanes are dark at night, so plan dinner back down in town.
The Mall
Kalsang Friends Corner on the Mall is a popular Tibetan restaurant for momos, thukpa and noodles. It is the warm, filling dinner many people want after an evening walk. Expect a wait at peak times.
Lovely Omelette Centre is a tiny stall on the Mall known for its many kinds of omelette. It is quick and cheap, good for a snack while walking, and famous enough that there is often a short queue.
The Mall has plenty more: snack stalls, sweet shops for bal mithai, bakeries and hotel dining rooms. It stays open later than Landour.
Near the sights
At Kempty Falls, the stalls at the top and bottom sell momos, Maggi, corn and tea. Gun Hill has snack stalls at the top of the ropeway. Neither is a place for a proper meal.
Practical notes
On summer weekends and over the New Year week, every well-known place gets crowded; eat a little early or late. Vegetarian food is easy to find. Carry some cash for the smaller cafés. The food guide explains the dishes.
