Do not try to climb down to the pool, which holds crocodiles.

Keep children close at the viewing terrace.
Stop at River View Restaurant on the route for lunch or tea.
Combine the falls with Anupu and the dam after a morning on the island.
The falls
Ethipothala Falls is on the Chandravanka stream, which drops about 21 m over a rock ledge into a round green pool before joining the Krishna. It lies about 11 km from the dam, in Andhra Pradesh's Palnadu district, on the Vijayapuri South side. The falls are short but wide. After a good monsoon they come down in several white streams across the rock face.
The viewing terrace
You see the falls from a viewing area on the cliff above the gorge. There is no official path down to the pool, and you should not try to make one. The rocks near the edge are slippery, and the pool below is home to mugger crocodiles from a nearby breeding centre. Stay behind the railings and keep children close.
When to come
The falls are fullest from August to October, after the monsoon. They keep a good flow into November. By April and May the stream can thin to a trickle, and the falls lose most of their appeal. Late afternoon light suits the rock face and the water.
Around the falls
There are small temples near the falls and snack stalls at the viewpoint. River View Restaurant is on the route for a proper meal. Ethipothala combines easily with the dam and Anupu on the afternoon after an island launch.
