Cold, with snow on the higher ground and some high passes and roads closed — beautiful, but pack and plan for it.

Apr – Jun
The prime window — comfortable days and the higher roads open again, though pre-monsoon haze can hide the far peaks by May and June.

Jul – Sep
Lush and green but wet, with a real risk of landslides and roadblocks on mountain routes.
Pack: a waterproof shell, quick-dry layers and sturdy, grippy footwear.
Shines now: Siang River
Plan a monsoon day →October to November: after the rains
The rain eases, skies clear and the river starts to fall. Days are warm and pleasant. The Siang River Festival, a tourism and adventure event, is usually held in late November or December, at venues that rotate between Pasighat and other Siang valley towns.
December to February: winter
Mild, dry and sunny, with cool mornings and evenings. This is the best season for Daying Ering, when migratory birds are on the river islands, and for rafting, as the river is at its lowest and clearest. Oranges fill the market.
March to April: spring
Warming up, with some rain by April. Aran, the Adi festival that marks the start of the farming year, is celebrated on 7 March. The countryside turns green.
May to September: monsoon
Hot, humid and very wet. The Siang rises sharply and can flood low-lying areas, and landslides can cut roads north to Pangin. Daying Ering is usually not accessible, and rafting stops. Solung, the Adi harvest festival, starts on 1 September and brings Pasighat out in celebration despite the rain.
