Not sure what to order? The Hyderabad food guide starts from the dishes — what each one is, when to eat it, and which of these kitchens is known for it.
Secunderabad: Paradise
Paradise has served biryani in Secunderabad since 1953 and is the name most visitors know first. It is a big, busy, family-friendly restaurant. The chicken and mutton dum biryani are the benchmark orders, and qubani ka meetha is a good way to finish. It sits on the north side of Hussain Sagar, so it pairs well with an evening on Tank Bund or Necklace Road.
Old City: Shah Ghouse and Hotel Shadab
Shah Ghouse Cafe in Shah Ali Banda is a short drive south of Charminar. It is known for biryani all year and for its haleem during Ramzan, when the queue spills onto the street after sunset. Hotel Shadab in Ghansi Bazaar is a few minutes' walk from both Charminar and Chowmahalla Palace. It is an old favourite for biryani, haleem in season, and double ka meetha. Both are simple, fast and crowded at meal times, so arrive early for lunch or expect to wait.
Beside Charminar: Nimrah Cafe
Nimrah Cafe & Bakery is the Irani café right by the monument. Come for chai and Osmania biscuits rather than a meal. It opens very early, which makes it the natural start to a Charminar morning. You can also buy boxes of biscuits to take home.
A simple plan
- Old City day: chai at Nimrah before Charminar opens, lunch at Hotel Shadab after Chowmahalla Palace.
- Ramzan evening: haleem at Shah Ghouse or Shadab after sunset, then walk the lit bazaar around Charminar.
- Lake evening: sunset at Hussain Sagar, dinner at Paradise.

Questions

Where should I eat in Hyderabad?
4 places are listed here, across 4 areas. Each entry says what that kitchen is known for rather than reprinting its menu, so pick by the dish you want and the area you'll be in.
Are there good vegetarian restaurants in Hyderabad?
Yes — 1 of the places listed is pure vegetarian, and the food-type badge on every card tells you before you set out.
What should I order in Hyderabad?
Start from the dishes rather than the restaurants — the Hyderabad food guide covers what each dish is and when to eat it, then links to the places that do it well.
Which is better for biryani, Paradise or Shah Ghouse?
They suit different trips. Paradise is a large family restaurant near Hussain Sagar and easy for first-timers. Shah Ghouse is an Old City place, faster and more local, and known for its Ramzan haleem. Many visitors try both.
Where can I eat near Charminar?
Nimrah Cafe sits beside the monument for chai and biscuits, and Hotel Shadab in Ghansi Bazaar is a few minutes' walk away for biryani, haleem and double ka meetha.
Are these places busy during Ramzan?
Very. After sunset the Old City kitchens fill with people breaking the fast and queuing for haleem. Go late in the evening or be ready to wait, and keep your belongings close in the crowds.
