Best time to visit Lonavala
Lonavala has two good seasons that are good for opposite reasons. The monsoon brings waterfalls, cloud and full dams; the dry months bring clear views and easy trails. Only the hot weeks of April and May are hard to recommend, fireflies aside.

RecommendedJun – Sep
Some of the heaviest rain in India, from June to September: thick mist, full waterfalls and green hills, but slippery paths and landslides on the ghat roads. Weekends bring heavy traffic, and in the wettest towns many viewpoints, boat rides and hotels close.
Pack: a good rain shell, quick-dry layers and shoes with real grip.
Shines now: Lonavala Lake
Plan a monsoon day →Monsoon, June to September
The rain usually arrives in the first half of June and stays until late September. July and August are the wettest months, and Lonavala gets more rain in those two months than many Indian cities get in a year. This is when Bhushi Dam overflows, Tiger's Leap fills with cloud and waterfalls, and Lonavala Lake fills up. It is also when Lonavala is busiest. Weekends bring traffic jams, full hotels and high room rates.
Heavy rain carries real risks here. Streams rise in minutes, cliff edges are slippery, and the district regularly issues orders that ban entering water or close viewpoints, forts and caves until the rain eases. These orders come and go within a season, so check the news the day before.
After the rains, October and November
The hills stay green into October and the air clears. Waterfalls fade quickly, but the crowds thin out and the forts become easier to walk. The days can still be humid in October.
Winter, December to February
This is the clear, dry season. Days are warm, nights on the ridge are cool, and the views across the Konkan are at their sharpest. It is the best time for Karla Caves, Bhaja and the long walk to Rajmachi. The dam steps are dry and the lake shrinks to grass.
Hot season, March to May
Afternoons get hot and the landscape turns brown. The lake can dry out completely. The one reason to come is the firefly season at Rajmachi, from about mid-May to mid-June, just before the monsoon arrives.
Weekdays beat weekends
Whatever the month, Lonavala fills up on Saturdays, Sundays and long weekends, because it is so close to Mumbai and Pune. A Tuesday in August can be pleasant; a Sunday in August can mean hours in traffic. See what's on for festival dates that add to the crowds.
