Baisaran today

Baisaran is a high meadow of grass and pine forest about 5 km above Pahalgam, at around 2,400 m, reached only on foot or by pony. For years it was one of the most popular outings from the town.

On 22 April 2025, militants attacked visitors in the meadow and killed 26 people: 25 tourists and a local pony handler who tried to stop them. The meadow was closed immediately afterwards. In April 2026 the route up was still sealed and guarded, and in July 2026 Baisaran remained on the list of restricted sites. There was no confirmed date for reopening. Please do not try to reach it, hire anyone to take you there, or follow informal trails.
