Where to Eat in Warangal

Warangal's food scene is plain and good: tiffin in the morning, a full Telangana meal at lunch and biryani at night. The places listed here are spread across Hanamkonda, Warangal and Palampet.

Not sure what to order? The Warangal food guide starts from the dishes — what each one is, when to eat it, and which of these kitchens is known for it.

Hanamkonda

Most visitors stay in Hanamkonda, near the Thousand Pillar Temple, and two of the listed places are here.

Sri Tiffins is a vegetarian tiffin spot for the morning. Come for idli, dosa, filter coffee and sarva pindi, the crisp rice-and-peanut pancake that Telangana calls its own. Go early, before the fort. The griddle is busiest before 9 am.

Hotel Kanha is a family restaurant for Hyderabadi-style biryani, Telangana meals and a wider menu for mixed groups. It suits dinner after a day on the road, and its mirchi bajji make a good starter.

Warangal

Telangana Ruchulu, in Warangal itself, is the place for a proper Telangana lunch. Expect jonna rotte, gongura pachadi, dal and rice, and a spread of vegetable curries. It is close enough to Warangal Fort for lunch after a morning among the ruins.

Palampet, for Ramappa

Ramappa View Restaurant is near the Ramappa Temple and serves Telangana meals and biryani. Palampet is a village, and choices there are few. Carry water and snacks from Warangal in case the restaurant is closed or busy with a tour group.

Good to know

These are everyday places, not formal restaurants. Meals are quick, portions are generous and most tables are shared at lunch. Telangana thalis refill rice and curries until you wave the server away. If you need milder food, say so when you order, because the default level of chilli here is high.

A simple day

  • Breakfast at Sri Tiffins.
  • The fort and Kala Thoranam through the morning.
  • Lunch at Telangana Ruchulu.
  • Bhadrakali and the Thousand Pillar Temple in the afternoon.
  • Biryani at Hotel Kanha for dinner.

For what each dish is, see the Warangal food guide.
