Bundi
A blue-hued Rajasthani town below a rambling hill fort — famed for its exquisitely painted palace, ornate step-wells (baoris) and a laid-back, unspoilt charm.
Bundi is old Rajputana: the Garh Palace's Bundi-school miniatures, the grand Raniji ki Baori step-well, blue lanes, leheriya and bandhani, and dal-baati-churma.

About Bundi
Bundi is a small old town in the Hadoti region of south-eastern Rajasthan, about 210 km from Jaipur and about 38 km from Kota. It grew up in a narrow valley below Taragarh Fort, and the Garh Palace climbs the hillside between the fort and the town. Many houses in the old quarter are painted blue, and the lanes are dotted with stepwells, which is why Bundi is often called the city of stepwells.
The town is compact enough to see on foot. Start with the Chitrashala's painted walls inside the palace, walk down to Raniji ki Baori and the Nagar Sagar Kund stepwells, and end the day at Nawal Sagar, where the palace and fort reflect in the water. Keep a slow morning for Sukh Mahal on Jait Sagar lake, and eat a plate of dal baati churma or a full Rajasthani thali in the old town.

Why is Bundi called the city of stepwells?
