About Kanyakumari
Kanyakumari sits at the southern tip of mainland India, where the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean meet. The town is small and built around the shore. The Kumari Amman Temple stands a few steps from the water, and just offshore two rocky islets carry the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the 133-foot Thiruvalluvar Statue, now linked by a glass bridge over the sea.
Most visitors come for the sea at the start and end of the day. Watch the sunrise from the Triveni Sangam shore, take the first ferry out to the rock memorials, and visit the temple before the midday crowds. In the afternoon, drive about 7 km up the coast to Vattakottai Fort, then come back for sunset and a plate of meen kuzhambu or prawn fry. Two days is enough to see the town without rushing.

Kanyakumari is famous as the southern tip of mainland India, where three seas meet. It is known for sunrise and sunset over the water, the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, the Thiruvalluvar Statue, the Kumari Amman Temple and its fresh seafood.
How many days are enough for Kanyakumari?
1–2 days is enough for the sunrise, the ferry to the rock memorials, the Kumari Amman Temple, Vattakottai Fort and a sunset. Add a day if you want to visit Suchindram or Nagercoil nearby.
What is the best time to visit Kanyakumari?

How do I reach Kanyakumari?
The nearest airport is Thiruvananthapuram, about 90 km away, from where you continue by road or train. Kanyakumari has its own railway station with long-distance trains, and Nagercoil, about 20 km away, has more connections.
Can you see both sunrise and sunset over the sea in Kanyakumari?
Yes. Because the town faces the sea on both sides of the cape, you can watch the sun rise over the water in the morning and set over the water in the evening. Clouds often hide one or both, so give yourself two mornings if the sunrise matters to you.
