The name tells you what this is: franky is the Agra-North-Indian version of a roll — a thin egg-coated flatbread wrapped around spiced filling — and Mama Chicken has been making them in Sadar Bazaar long enough to be the reference point for the dish in the city.

What to order

Chicken franky is the signature and the reason to come. Chicken kathi roll is the same idea with a different wrap. Beyond rolls, this is a Mughlai non-veg kitchen: korma, butter chicken, tandoori chicken, kebab, and biryani, all at prices that are a fraction of what a hotel restaurant on Fatehabad Road charges for the same dishes. The house speciality list people repeat is the tandoori and the korma.

Vegetarians are served but this is not the place to come if you do not eat meat — the kitchen's strength and its reputation are both non-veg.

What it is like

Loud, crowded, fast, and unapologetically a street-food restaurant. It is not atmospheric and it is not quiet. It is where Agra's own young people eat, which is the strongest signal available that the food is good and the prices are honest. Expect a wait at peak dinner hours, plastic-and-steel furniture, and staff who move quickly and do not hover.

Practical

• Hours roughly 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM — it is not a breakfast place. Come for lunch or dinner.
• ₹150–500 for a full meal, which makes it the best-value serious non-veg meal in the tourist area.
• Carry cash. UPI is increasingly accepted but the register can be slow and change is short.
• Sadar Bazaar location puts you in the cantonment market district, so it pairs naturally with an evening of Sadar Bazaar chaat and shopping — and it is about 2 km from the Taj Ganj hotels, ₹100–150 by auto.
• It gets busy enough that takeaway is often faster than a table at peak times.

If you want the same food in a calmer room, Pinch of Spice on Fatehabad Road is the mid-range step up. If you want the top of the range, Peshawri at ITC Mughal. Mama Chicken is the one where the price has not been adjusted for tourists.
