Agra Fort
Late afternoon, when the red sandstone warms to orange and the Taj glows down the river; early morning for soft light and empty courtyards.
Fuel up on Agra Paratha, then shoot Agra Fort.

6:00–7:30 AM for empty courtyards, low raking light on the red sandstone, and deer on the lawns. Late afternoon gives warm stone but more visitors. Avoid 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM: harsh overhead light, heat haze, and the sandstone goes flat.
Fuel up on Agra Paratha, then shoot Akbar's Tomb, Sikandra.

Late afternoon, roughly 4:00 – 5:45 PM, when low raking sun brings out the surviving glazed-tile colour on the upper walls and dome. Midday light flattens the building completely because the surface has no deep relief to cast shadows.

Agra Paratha
A paratha is a whole-wheat flatbread stuffed, rolled, griddle-fried in ghee or oil, and served hot — and in Agra it is the everyday counterpart to the more ceremonial bedai. Where bedai is a specific early-morning street food that sells out, paratha is available all day, everywhere, and is what people actually eat for breakfast on an ordinary Tuesday.
The stuffings
- Aloo paratha — spiced mashed potato. The default and the best.
- Gobhi paratha — grated cauliflower, drier and more delicately spiced.
- Paneer paratha — crumbled fresh cheese, richer, costs more.
- Mix / special — several stuffings together, or paneer with aloo.
- Mooli (radish) and methi (fenugreek leaf) are seasonal and worth trying if offered.
Served with white butter or ghee on top, a bowl of dahi (curd), mango or lime pickle, and green chutney. The butter is not optional and is the reason it tastes like it does.
Where to eat it
Gopal Bazar is the paratha street in Agra and the place to go if you want the specialised version — multiple vendors, all frying to order, all cheap. Beyond that, paratha is served at almost every budget restaurant in Taj Ganj and Sadar Bazaar, and Joney's Place near the Taj East Gate does a good aloo paratha to a tourist crowd at ₹80–150.
Street and small-shop prices run ₹40–120 for two parathas with all the accompaniments, which is one of the best-value meals in the city. A restaurant version is ₹120–250.
When
Breakfast, but genuinely any time. Because it is available all day it is the right answer when bedai is sold out (after about 10:00 AM), when you are between monuments at an awkward hour, or when you want something hot and filling that is not a curry.
Practical
Watch it being made and eat it immediately — a paratha that sits goes leathery. Ask for less butter if you want it lighter, but know that it will be worse. It is vegetarian and usually cooked in ghee, so ask if you need it in oil rather than ghee. Cash at street stalls, UPI at most shops. One paratha is a snack; two is a meal; three is a mistake before a long walk.
Paratha travels badly and is not something to buy for later. Order it when you are ready to sit down.
