Pinch of Spice
The restaurant most visitors to Agra end up at, and for defensible reasons: it is reliable, mid-range, on the hotel axis, and cooking proper Mughlai and North Indian food rather than a generic continental menu. At 1076/2 Fatehabad Road, directly opposite ITC Mughal, it is a short walk from most Taj Ganj hotels.
What to order
The Mughlai korma and the kebab platter are the two things the kitchen is known for, and both are worth ordering together. Beyond that: dal makhani (slow-cooked black lentils, the safe choice everywhere in north India), paneer preparations for vegetarians, tandoori chicken, and butter chicken. Bread matters more than rice with this food — order butter naan or sheermal.
There is a substantial vegetarian menu, which is not a given at a mid-range Agra restaurant in a city whose speciality is Mughlai meat.
What it is like
A proper sit-down restaurant: air-conditioned, well-lit, table service, and busy enough that you may want to arrive before 8:00 PM or expect to wait. It is the right choice when you have spent a day at monuments, are too tired to negotiate with a street stall, and want a predictable meal in a clean room. It has outlets in Tajganj and Civil Lines.
Practical
- 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
- ₹500–1,000 for two with a main and breads — genuinely mid-range by Agra standards, and roughly a fifth of what Esphahan or Peshawri would cost.
- Cards and UPI accepted. A service charge is often added automatically — check the bill before tipping on top of it.
- Opposite ITC Mughal, so it is easy to find and easy to reach by auto or e-rickshaw from any Fatehabad Road hotel.
Pinch of Spice is the sensible default. It will not be the most memorable meal of your trip — that is either a bedai breakfast at Deviram or a raan at Peshawri — but it will not go wrong, and after a 4:30 AM start at the Taj, not going wrong is worth something.
