Taj Bano

Taj Bano carries the highest rating of any restaurant in Agra — roughly 4.9 from more than 2,300 reviews, which is an exceptional score at that volume and puts it fractionally above Peshawri in the same hotel. It is the second of ITC Mughal's two serious dining rooms and the one people tend to discover after they have already eaten at Peshawri.

What to order

The cooking is Indian and international, broader than Peshawri's strict North-West Frontier tandoor focus. That makes it the better choice if your group is split — one person wanting kebabs, another wanting something milder or non-Indian. The Mughlai dishes are strong, the vegetarian menu is substantial, and the pastry and dessert work is the best in the city.

Ask what is seasonal and what the kitchen is proudest of; at this level the specials outperform the menu staples.

What it is like

Set inside ITC Mughal Resort & Spa on Fatehabad Road, which is built around Mughal-style gardens and water channels — the grounds alone are worth walking before dinner. The room is elegant and calm, the service is formal and attentive, and the pacing is unhurried. This is a long-meal restaurant, not a quick one.

Practical

  • Fatehabad Road, inside ITC Mughal, opposite Pinch of Spice and about ten minutes by car from the Taj.
  • Lunch and dinner services; reserve, especially in peak season.
  • ₹3,000–8,000 for two.
  • Smart casual minimum; no shorts or vests at dinner.
  • Non-residents welcome.
  • Cards accepted; service charge usually included — check the bill before adding a tip.

Peshawri or Taj Bano

Both are in the same hotel and both are excellent. Choose Peshawri if you want tandoor — dal Bukhara, raan, lamb chops, the giant naan, and the no-cutlery frontier experience. Choose Taj Bano if you want a broader menu, a calmer room, or if the higher rating is what you are chasing. If you are in Agra for three nights and the budget allows, do one of each and you will have eaten at the two best restaurants in the city.

Bagh-E-Bahar, also inside ITC Mughal, is the third option there — more casual, garden-facing, cheaper.
