Best Photo Spots in Dwarka
Dwarka is a small temple town on the edge of the Arabian Sea, and its best photos bring the two together: the carved spire of the Dwarkadhish Temple rising above the steps of Gomti Ghat, pilgrims bathing where the river meets the sea, and a long flag flying from the top of the temple.
A short drive north adds very different backdrops, from the giant seated Shiva at Nageshwar to the turquoise water around Bet Dwarka and the cables of the Sudarshan Setu. Whether you enjoy temple architecture, street scenes or seascapes, these are the best photo spots in Dwarka.

Why Dwarka Is Great for Photography
Dwarka packs a lot into a few streets. The Dwarkadhish Temple, Gomti Ghat and the seafront are all within walking distance, so you can go from carved stone to open sea in a few minutes. Just outside town, the walls of the Rukmini Devi Temple are covered in carved gods, human figures and elephants, which makes it the best spot for close-up detail.
The coast gives you clear light and sunsets over the water for much of the year. Further north, Bet Dwarka adds turquoise water, fishing boats and the Sudarshan Setu, which was India's longest cable-stayed bridge when it opened in 2024, and Shivrajpur Beach, about 12 km from town, adds white sand.
Photography Tips for Dwarka
- Shoot before you go in: Phones are banned inside the Dwarkadhish Temple, so take your photos from Gomti Ghat and the streets around it first.
- Photograph the outside of temples: Photography is usually not allowed inside the shrines, so plan your shots around the spires, walls and approaches.
- Avoid the midday sun: Pale stone and sea glare are harsh around noon, so shoot early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
- Watch the waves: Stay off the lower, wet steps at Gomti Ghat when the tide is high, however good the angle looks.
- Protect your gear: Sea spray, salt and sand get everywhere, so carry a lens cloth and keep your phone in a pouch.
- Ask first: Ask before photographing pilgrims who are bathing or praying, and do not photograph rituals in progress.
- Leave the drone: Do not fly a drone near the temples or the coast without permission.
Best Time for Photography in Dwarka
November to February brings clear skies, softer light and comfortable weather for walking between spots. From April to June the air is hazy and humid, and in the monsoon, from July to September, the sea turns grey and rough, which makes for dramatic skies but keeps you well back from the water.
Photography rules can change, especially at temples, so check the signs at each entrance. The temples in Dwarka page lists what each shrine allows.
