- There is no entry fee at this temple

Planning the visit
Customary practice and what Agra's climate means for a barefoot visit โ not rules posted at this temple. Anything specific to Prithvinath Mahadev Temple is above.
Circling the shrine
At most Shaiva temples the circuit around the sanctum is not completed in a full circle โ the channel draining the abhishekam is not crossed. Walk to it, turn, and come back the way you came. Watching what the queue in front of you does is the reliable guide.
Come in winter
Winter is when Agra is most comfortable to walk around, which matters here because a temple visit is done on foot and barefoot. Locally the window is given as october to march.
Stone gets hot โ go early
You will be barefoot from the shoe rack onwards, often across an open courtyard. Between late morning and mid-afternoon in the hot months that stone is genuinely painful to stand on. Socks help, and are permitted almost everywhere shoes are not.
Metro, then walk
Agra has a metro, and it is usually the fastest way to get near a busy temple โ the streets immediately around one are often closed to vehicles or jammed with them.

Prithvinath Mahadev Temple
Prithvinath Mahadev is one of Agra's older Shiva shrines, on Prithvinath Road in the western part of the city. Local tradition links the temple to Prithviraj Chauhan, the twelfth-century Rajput ruler whose story is told across north India, and the name itself โ Prithvi-nath, lord of the earth โ carries that association. As with most temples of this age in Agra, the attribution is devotional tradition rather than documented history, and the structure you see is considerably younger than the legend.
๐ Timings
Hours are reported two ways: 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM in some listings and 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM in others. The difference is probably seasonal. The practical advice is that this is an early-opening temple with long hours and no entry fee โ but confirm locally if you are planning a dawn visit, because the 4:00 AM figure is the least consistently reported.
๐ What to expect
An active neighbourhood Shiva temple rather than a monument: a sanctum with a lingam, regular chanting and ritual through the day, and a decorated interior during festival periods. Visitors are welcome but the temple is not set up as an attraction โ there are no boards explaining anything, so it helps to know what you are looking at. Rudrabhishek is performed on request.
๐ Dress and conduct
Modest dress, shoulders and knees covered. Footwear off before the shrine. Photography inside the sanctum is generally not permitted; the temple building and courtyard are usually fine. Keep noise down during chanting.
๐ธ Festivals
Mahashivratri and the Shravan (Sawan) Mondays of July and August are the peaks, when the temple is decorated and crowds build from early morning. Regular Monday observances are busier than other weekdays year-round โ Monday is Shiva's day.
๐ก Getting there
Prithvinath Road is roughly 3โ4 km from the city centre and about 7 km from the Taj Mahal, in the Bodla / Dauraetha Road area west of the cantonment. The operational Agra Metro corridor does not reach it โ the line runs Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar โ so this is an auto or app-cab trip. Autos from the Taj area run โน150โ250; Uber and Ola both work in Agra and are usually cheaper and more predictable.
If you have limited time in Agra, this is a temple to choose only if you are interested in Shiva worship as it is actually practised, rather than in architecture. For a visitor wanting one Agra temple, Mankameshwar is the stronger choice โ it is older in reputation, richer as a complex, and reachable by metro.
Last verified: 2026. Timings, entry arrangements and any charges are published by the temple itself and do change - confirm them with the temple's own official website or counter before travelling rather than relying on any third-party listing.
